Letterboxing in all seasons

Letterboxing is a great hobby. It’s full of fun, and exploring, it’s basically free to do, and anyone can do it.

Another great thing about Letterboxing is it can be done all year around, whether in the spring, summer, autumn or winter.

Make sure whenever you are out in the great outdoors to stay safe and as the Scouts say “be prepared”, especially as the days get shorter and the changeable weather continues.

Here are some hints and tips…

A good idea before going out and exploring is to check the weather forecast and pack accordingly, making sure you have spare and waterproof clothing.

Wear appropriate footwear: walking boots and wellies etc, some locations can get a bit muddy or wet.

Take drinks and snacks with you.

If you have one, pack a GPS device, map and compass. Pack a torch if you think you’ll be out after dark.

Always tell someone where you are going and what time you will be back and take a fully charged phone with you.

Never go beyond your own abilities and turn back as a group if necessary, you can always try another day. Letterboxes will never be hidden in a dangerous location, so if you’re worried or concerned, stop, you may be looking in the wrong place!

Remember it is meant to be fun and enjoyable.

Letterboxing and outdoor activities can be dangerous and this is only advice. All activities are done at your own risk!
