Introducing Virtual Letterboxing

We’ve gone virtual with some of our locations!

Front and back of new virtual letterbox.

Due to some of our letterboxes going missing from their locations, we’ve decided to give virtual letterboxing a go.

It’s still the same unique adventure, where you have to solve clues, be outdoors and use observational skills to locate the letterboxes, but with a small difference.

How does it work?

Practically they are more or less the same, however, there is no physical stamp at some locations.

Once you locate the letterbox, scan the QR code (or take a picture for later) to be directed to the letterbox unique webpage, download the unique stamp and fill in the virtual logbook. It’s that simple!

Remember to re-hide it where you found it, for others to enjoy.

Why have we gone Virtual?

The reason for going virtual is the cost of having to replace the letterboxes in such a short amount of time from going live. It was expected that we would need to replace them with wear and tear, but not to replace as many going missing as we have encountered.

Therefore, we decided to make some locations virtual to keep costs down, as Shropshire Letterboxing is only a hobby site and is not funded

What’s the difference?

Instead of searching for a letterbox with a stamp, ink, pen, and logbook, keep an eye out for a wooden plaque that displays the letterbox name, a unique QR code, and instructions. This time you’ll be rewarded with a unique virtual stamp.

Remember to place the letterbox back where you found it for others to locate and enjoy.

Virtual Letterbox compared to Standard Letterbox, both used by Shropshire Letterboxing.

Hopefully, you’ll enjoy the new virtual letterboxes as much as the standard ones and still enjoy collecting the unique stamps.

Happy letterbox hunting.
